Redeemed Wisdom

READING: Matthew 16

“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. ” (Matthew 16:24-25)

The radical example and call of Jesus is to follow him in laying down our lives to honor God and redeem others—there are no short-cuts. Jesus offered an kingdom that told the world it was upside down. The cross casts its shadow over all of us.

Greatest is least, and least is most. Up is down, while down is up. That which costs the most is valued least and vice versa. First finishes last, while last comes in first. The least will be greatest. This is the redemptive wisdom Jesus offered. If we give our lives to God, and live for him, then we truly find life.
There are so many things we can invest our lives in that ultimately become our masters. The harder we work to attain them, the more we find we have lost that vital essence of living that is God’s gift to us.

“God, my life is Yours. Amen.”
